Fluorene Flu`or*ene, n. (Chem.) A colorless, crystalline hydrocarbon, {C13H10} having a beautiful violet fluorescence; whence its name. It occurs in the higher boiling products of coal tar, and is obtained artificially. [1913 Webster]
