Gyracanthus Gyr`a*can"thus (j[i^]r`[.a]*k[a^]n"th[u^]s), n. [NL., fr. Gr. gyro`s round + 'a`kanqa spine.] (Paleon.) A genus of fossil fishes, found in Devonian and carboniferous strata; -- so named from their round, sculptured spines. [1913 Webster]
