2. (Biol.) That form of alternate generation in which two kinds of sexual generation, or a sexual and a parthenogenetic generation, alternate; -- in distinction from {metagenesis}, where sexual and asexual generations alternate. --Claus & Sedgwick. [1913 Webster]
