Phainopepla Pha*i`no*pep"la, n. [NL., fr. Gr. ? shining + ? robe.] (Zo["o]l.) A small crested passerine bird ({Pha["i]nopepla nitens}), native of Mexico and the Southern United States. The adult male is of a uniform glossy blue-black; the female is brownish. Called also {black flycatcher}. [1913 Webster]
