Stringent Strin"gent (str[i^]n"jent), a. [L. stringens, -entis, p. pr. of stringere to draw or bind tight. See {Strain}.] Binding strongly; making strict requirements; restrictive; rigid; severe; as, stringent rules. [1913 Webster]
