Filefish File"fish`, n. (Zo["o]l.) Any plectognath fish of the genera {Monacanthus}, {Alutera}, {balistes}, and allied genera; -- so called on account of the roughly granulated skin, which is sometimes used in place of sandpaper. [1913 Webster]
