{Male fern} (Bot.), a fern of the genus {Aspidium} ({Aspidium Filixmas}), used in medicine as an anthelmintic, esp. against the tapeworm. {Aspidium marginale} in America, and {Aspidium athamanticum} in South Africa, are used as good substitutes for the male fern in medical practice.
