dropper drop"per, n. 1. One who, or that which, drops. Specif.: (Fishing) A fly that drops from the leader above the bob or end fly. [1913 Webster]

2. A dropping tube, usually of glass or plastic with a narrow opening at the tip and a rubber bulb at the top which can be squeezed to control intake or outflow of the fluid. The word is used in combinations with obvious significance, as {eye dropper}, {medicine dropper}, etc.

Syn: eye dropper. [1913 Webster +PJC]

3. (Mining) A branch vein which drops off from, or leaves, the main lode. [1913 Webster]

4. (Zo["o]l.) A dog which suddenly drops upon the ground when it sights game, -- formerly a common, and still an occasional, habit of the setter. [1913 Webster]
