Ziggurat ig"gu*rat, n. A temple tower of the Babylonians or Assyrians, consisting of a lofty pyramidal structure, built in successive stages, with outside staircases, and a shrine at the top; -- called also {zikkurat}. [Webster 1913 Suppl.]
